Regatta off Mentor Lagoons, Lake Erie
This blog is based in Northeast Ohio, what was "La Nation du Chat," the Cat Nation, as the French-Canadian furtraders called the Land of the Erie Indians. The blog will touch on many issues: nature, the environment, literature, poetry, society, and politics. Around here we think of the Lake Erie shoreline as the North Coast of the United States--a Frontier in the midst of the Rust Belt.

- I am a teacher of English and poetry as well as an intermediate learner of Irish, active in the Irish Language study group at the East Side Irish-American Club in Euclid, Ohio.

I am sitting in my Mother's house on E 274 st. As I walked around the neighborhood today I was thinking about all my boyhood friends and wondered what happened to Gary Czyzynski. A web search turned up his name and your North Coast blog. Very nostalgic reading. Jim Allsip and Jay Neidermeyer were friends of mine as well. I.m an EHS 67 grad, John Rice aka "wheat" , a nickname Gary gave me. jmrice@yahoo.com

Gary gave everyone a name. He called me "Wild Man" and "Cogs." He was one heck of a football player.
